It will soon be possible to use open-loop National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) cards to pay for any mode of transport in Hyderabad.
“SBI gives demonstration of devices to implement smart card ticketing system”
In the third meeting of the task force committee constituted towards improving transport facilities in the State, State Bank of India gave a demonstration of devices that Metro Rail and TSRTC can use to implement smart card ticketing system. Operation techniques of the devices were presented to Sunil Sharma, Principal Secretary, TR&B department; TSRTC managing director; Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited NVS Reddy, and Purushottam, Executive Director (Revenue & IT), TSRTC, among other officials of L&T Metro Rail and SBI.
L&T Metro Rail has already signed a contract with SBI that allows the latter to introduce NCMC-based smart cards ticketing system in Hyderabad Metro rail. These cards can also be used in different modes of transport including TSRTC. Mr. Sharma is expected to further investigate the feasibility of the smart cards. He, however, stressed the need to have a common payment mode for TSRTC, Metro Rail, MMTS, Ola, Uber and autorickshaws.
The auto unions represented by Amanullah Khan also welcomed the proposal and agreed to extend all support for implementation of the smart card system of payment. As per the SBI’s presentation, any transaction using the smart cards will be credited directly into the account of organisations including TSRTC, HMRL, MMTS or individual autorickshaw drivers.
